Our Toddler Room

Toddlers are fun! They are getting more accustomed to the world around them, getting used to the expectations of them as a little human, and are building relationships with other children. They are always on the move and finding exciting things to fill their day with every day! As a toddler, your child is learning how to communicate using words and also express their needs and wants. They are continuing to develop their social, emotional, and cognitive skills, so, needless to say, there is a lot going on in this room! What Is Your Child Learning?

In our toddler room, your kid is expanding their vocabulary, expanding their social skills, and building upon their self-help skills. The activities we provide in our toddler room help cultivate your child’s natural curiosity, energy, and natural desire to be bold. They will learn letters and sounds so they are able to say recognize their own name, say their own name, and even write it! Further, they will learn other short and meaningful words like mom and dad.

At our Christian toddler care center, children are also learning numbers one through 10, and are learning how to count to 10 — it’s exciting stuff! Numbers are an important part of everyday life, more than we are aware of. Your toddler will become more familiar with numbers, how they use them in everyday life, and how numbers and objects correspond.

Toddlers have a reputation for having tons of energy and loving the chance to engage with others. During this stage in their development, toddlers are showing increased interest in interacting with familiar adults and also show more interest in interacting with other children. They are learning how to share but also cooperate with others. In addition to being more social, toddlers have a reputation of being emotionally vulnerable and throwing tantrums. This is because they are just learning how to manage their emotions independently and with the help of an adult. We integrate our Christian values to help your child be more confident in expressing their emotions appropriately and being kind to others while doing so!

Developmental Milestones

Each area that your child is developing in, like physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively, are all working together to help form a holistic, comprehensive, and healthy understanding of how to interact with and understand the world around them. Each milestone may seem like a small step, but each small step is significant in terms of their development! Some of their social development includes knowing the names of familiar people, following instructions, and repeating words that they hear in conversations.

Their cognitive milestones will include sorting objects by shapes and colors, completing sentences and rhymes in familiar books, building towers with blocks, and naming animals and items in a picture book. Your child’s cognitive skills will be sharpened as they continue learning, using critical thinking, and using problem-solving. They will begin thinking about concepts in more complex ways and also play in a more in-depth manner. You can help further these skills by asking about your child’s thinking.

In terms of their physical development, you can expect your toddler to be able to kick a ball, begin running, climbing onto and down from furniture without help, walking up and down stairs without help, and throwing a ball overhand. They will be able to participate in different physical activities that they may not have been able to before
